Legacy of Temptation

(A Demonica Birthright Novel)

by Larissa Ione

The legacy continues…

It’s a gritty new world.

Three decades after the events of REAPER, the world is a different place. The secret is out. The existence of demons, vampires, shapeshifters, and angels has been revealed, and humans are struggling to adapt. Out of the chaos, The Aegis has risen to global power on the promise of containing or exterminating all underworlders, even if that means ushering in the End of Days.

Standing in their way is the next generation of warriors, the children of demons and angels and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

See how they become legends in their own right.

Legacy of Temptation

Eva Tennant, like everyone at The Aegis, hates demons. But she loves her job as Deputy Spokesperson for the global demon-slaying organization, and she’s excited to be in the running for Chief Spokesperson. All she has to do is not screw up the two-week exchange program with The Aegis’s rival agency, the Demon Activity Response Team. But things go horribly wrong when a murder turns her into a fugitive from justice and puts a demonic target on her back.

Logan, son of the Horseman of the Apocalypse known as Death, has dedicated his life to fighting demons alongside his colleagues at DART. He loves fighting, females, and his pet hellhound, Cujo. What he doesn’t love is The Aegis, whose leadership attempted to slaughter him at birth. Understandably, he balks when he’s ordered to protect an Aegis Guardian responsible for the deaths of his friends. Really, he’d rather feed her to Cujo.

But when an old enemy rises from the ashes, Eva and Logan find themselves giving into temptation even as they sacrifice the things…and people…they love the most.

An Exclusive Interview with Larissa Ione

Hi everyone!

In preparation for the release of Legacy of Temptation, I thought I’d have a sit down with Azagoth, a fallen (sort of) angel most know as the Grim Reaper. He is, after all, responsible for everything that has gone wrong in the future Demonica world. Obviously, I won’t say that to him in those words. Or to his face.

I take a seat in the huge living room. I can see the pool in the backyard, where his mate, Lilliana is soaking up the sun. Azagoth strolls in, dressed, as usual, in black pants, boots, and a hooded cloak that conceals his face.

As he sits, he pushes back the hood to reveal his handsome face, his startling green eyes, and black-as-night hair. He’s stunning, and yet, there’s a darkness about him that stirs anxiety deep in your soul. You want him…but you also know he’ll be the death of you.

And you’ll love every minute of dying.

Larissa: Hello, Azagoth. It’s been, what, thirty years since you destroyed Sheoul-gra and released millions upon millions of demons and evil souls into the world?

Azagoth (in a deep, rumbling voice that’s as smoky as the hell realm he used to run): Give or take.

Larissa: Give or take a few years?

Azagoth: Give or take a few million souls.

Larissa: Right. Okay, so do you miss Sheoul-gra? You lived there for thousands of years, after all.

Azagoth (seeming oddly pensive): It was a prison until Lilliana came, and then it was a paradise. But I don’t miss it at all.

Larissa: Your job used to involve sorting evil souls and sending them to a holding tank until they were reincarnated. Now you escort human souls to their final destination. Do you like your new job more than the old one?

Azagoth: I’m not allowed to torture humans.

Larissa: So…that’s a…

Azagoth: No. It’s maddenly boring. But I’m free now. Mostly. So it’s a trade-off.

Larissa: Your actions resulted in your daughter, Raika, being cursed to spend her life capturing the evilest of the souls you released. Do you have any regrets?

Azagoth: No.

Larissa: Seriously? You—

Azagoth (interrupting): My daughter would not have a mother if I hadn’t done what I did. Do I like it? No. Do I regret it? No. But I do blame every Heavenly puke who pinned that fate on my daughter.

Flames flicker in the depths of Azagoth’s emerald eyes, and I decide to shift the conversation away from the angels who made Azagoth’s life hell for thousands of years.

Larissa: Speaking of Raika, are you worried about her dating?

Azagoth: Why would I worry? No male would dare touch her.

Larissa (rolling my eyes): Oh, come on. Let’s be realistic. She’s a beautiful young woman and a total badass. She’s going to want to date.

Azagoth stares. And stares some more.

Larissa: *sighs* Okay, let’s move on.

Azagoth: Let’s not. I have things to do.

He rises to his full, impressive height, and suddenly there’s a scythe in his hand. My cue to leave, I guess.

Larissa: Thank you for your time, Azagoth. We’ll be seeing you later. We’ll be seeing a lot of you later. Please give Lilliana and Raika my best.

Azagoth grunts. Narrows his eyes at me.

Azagoth: Do not introduce Raika to any of those sex demons you hang out with. I’m warning you.

Larissa: Moi? Of course not. I wouldn’t think of it.

No, I have other plans for Raika…
